Nokia Announces Dual-SIM Asha 308 With 3" Display


Nokia has added another handset to its Series 40 based Asha lineup — the Asha 308, which comes with dual-SIM (GSM) functionality. This feature phone sports a 3" capacitive multi-touch screen protected by scratch-resistant glass. Apart from that, you get a 2 mp camera and Bluetooth 3.0. More importantly, the phone has a hot-swappable secondary SIM card slot. Here is the detailed list of features:

Although Nokia hasn't given a specific launch date, the handset is expected to hit the global market later this year. It will be available in black and Golden White, with a expected price tag of $100 (approx Rs 5,400).

Oracle Buys SelectMinds For Using Facebook And Social Networks To Recruit Employees

Oracle has acquired SelectMinds, a provider of cloud-based, social talent sourcing apps that allow companies to use social networks such as Facebook to recruit employees. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
It is Oracle’s year for buying companies in the human capital management market (HCM). Earlier this year it acquired Taleo for $1.92 billion. Taleo’s solutions help customers attract, motivate, and retain employees.

India opened its retail sector to foreign supermarkets on Friday, a major economic reform that has been stalled for months by political gridlock and came as part of a package of measures aimed at reviving growth.
The policy comes with provisos which, some analysts said, could hamper firms hoping to set up shop in the world's second-most populous country.

Google Adding Support for Do Not Track in Chrome

While the controvercy surrounding Do Not Track (DNT) in Internet Explorer, and its handling by the Apache server is still fresh, there is some good news from Google.
Google Chrome till now has not implemented the Do Not Track option that all other browsers have implemented—even Internet Explorer—by now. Google Chrome has held out for this long, but soon it too will be adding the option.

Bing Vs Google — Don't Bother Comparing

Earlier this month, a Microsoft contest called BingItOn encouraged people to try out Bing vs Google in the same window — and decide which was better. Microsoft's claim was that the overall Bing:Google win ratio is 2:1. Our claim is that a comparison is pointless.
People quite enjoy comparing search results in an "objective" way, then pronouncing "The Best" across parameters. Less objective people simply root for their personal favourite in the same way they root for sports teams — which the folks at Bing noticed, and thought up the BingItOn contest. The event has brought in some PR for Microsoft — good and bad — and it's invited quite a bit of commentary (objective as well as just-for-fun). But here's why (IMHO) there's either no question of, or no need for, a comparison:

Nintendo sees next opportunity for Wii success in Latin America, Eastern Europe

"We will continue to sell the Wii," Nintendo America president and CEO Reggie Fils-Aime told investors today in a Q&A followup to the company's big Wii U event in New York City. "In the US, the Wii has sold about 40 million units. We believe that there continues to be an opportunity with the Wii." However, where Fils-Aime sees the most opportunity may not be where you expect. "I'm responsible for Canada, and Latin America as well," he said. "We think there's opportunity in both of those markets, especially Latin America." The Wii is currently offered by Nintendo in North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe, but not Latin America. The Wii ranges from $140 to $250, depending on what it comes with.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding in Japan through the opening of a new availability zone. The move means that AWS will most likely be adding more data centers to keep up with the steady demand in service it has had since it first began offering its service in Tokyo 18 months ago.
AWS breaks its regions into availability zones. Each availability zone can encompass multiple data centers.

Apple Unveils iPhone 5 With 4" Screen, 8 mp Camera, And 4G LTE

Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the next-generation iPhone 5 at a keynote address in San Francisco, marking the release of undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited smartphone of the year. As expected, it has a larger 4" screen, yet at 7.6 mm is 18% thinner than its predecessor.
